Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 21, 2026 · Last updated: May 4, 2026

The short version: Two types of information — what you choose to send us through the contact form, and basic website usage data collected through Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. We don't sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers that help us operate the site (named below).

Who We Are

Idea Jar Web Design is a one-person web design business run by Matt Cline, based in the Bay Area, CA. This privacy policy explains what information we collect when you visit this website and how we handle it.

Questions? Reach us at matt@ideajarwebdesign.com or 650-246-9863.

What We Collect

We collect two types of information: information you choose to send us through the contact form, and basic website usage data collected automatically through analytics tools.

When you fill out the contact form on this site, we receive:

When you visit any page, our analytics tools (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, described below) collect usage data that does not directly identify you to us, such as pages visited, approximate location, device and browser information, clicks, and scroll behavior.

How We Use Information

We use contact-form information to respond to inquiries, prepare quotes, communicate about potential or active projects, deliver services, keep business records, and improve our website and services. We don't add you to mailing lists or contact you about anything unrelated to your request without your permission.

We use website usage data to understand site performance, popular pages, navigation issues, and how marketing channels are working — for example, whether visitors are finding the pricing information or dropping off somewhere unexpected.

Google Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, to help us understand how visitors find and use the site. Google Analytics collects usage data that does not directly identify you to us, such as:

Google may combine this data with other information it holds about you under its own policies. Google's privacy policy applies to the data they collect: policies.google.com/privacy.

Microsoft Clarity

This site also uses Microsoft Clarity, a behavior analytics service from Microsoft, to see how visitors interact with pages — things like which sections people scroll through, which buttons get clicked, and where people get stuck. Clarity records session replays and aggregates them into heatmaps. Microsoft Clarity provides masking tools intended to prevent sensitive form input from being captured in session recordings; we use Clarity's default masking modes, and we do not configure Clarity to intentionally collect the contents of contact-form messages. Microsoft's privacy policy applies to the data they collect: privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Some browsers offer privacy signals such as "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control. This site does not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals. Microsoft Clarity states that it supports Global Privacy Control. Visitors may also use browser settings, browser extensions, or third-party opt-out tools to limit certain tracking. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity may collect information about your activity on this site over time through cookies and similar technologies.

Who We Share Information With

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We do share information with service providers that help us operate the website and the business:

If you become a client and make a payment, payment information is processed through our payment provider (currently Stripe) under their own terms and privacy policy. We don't use advertising networks or social media tracking pixels on this site.

How Long We Keep Your Data

We keep your contact form submissions for as long as needed to respond to your inquiry and manage any work we do together. If you'd like us to delete your information at any point, just ask.

Your California Privacy Requests

Although Idea Jar Web Design may not be legally subject to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) based on its current size and data practices, we voluntarily honor reasonable California privacy requests. California visitors may contact us to:

To make a request, email us at matt@ideajarwebdesign.com. We aim to respond to verified requests within 45 days. We don't sell your personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of on that score.

Cookies

Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity each use cookies — small text files stored in your browser — to track visits over time. These cookies are set by Google and Microsoft respectively and governed by their privacy policies. We don't set any cookies of our own beyond what's needed to remember that you dismissed the cookie notice on this site.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect the information we receive. However, no website, email system, hosting platform, or internet transmission is guaranteed to be completely secure, and we can't promise absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We're not planning to do anything new or surprising with your data — this policy reflects exactly how we operate today.
