Summary. This site collects the information you submit through the contact form or chat assistant, and website usage data collected automatically by Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. It is shared only with the service providers listed below.
Who We Are
Idea Jar Web Design is a sole proprietorship operated by Matt Cline in the Bay Area, California. This policy describes the information collected through this website and how it is handled. Contact details appear at the end of this policy.
What We Collect
Information you provide. The contact form collects your name, email address, phone number, current website URL, your message, and how you heard about us. Phone number, website URL, and referral source are optional. The chat assistant ("Bulby") collects the same categories you choose to share in conversation, along with a description of the website you are looking for.
Information collected automatically. Each page visit generates usage data that does not directly identify you to us, including pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser characteristics, clicks, and scroll behavior.
How We Use Information
Information you provide is used to respond to inquiries, prepare quotes, communicate about prospective and active projects, deliver services, and maintain business records. It is not used for mailing lists or unrelated marketing without your permission.
Usage data is used to evaluate site performance, navigation, and the effectiveness of marketing channels.
Analytics, Cookies, and Tracking Signals
Google Analytics measures how visitors reach and move through the site: pages viewed and time spent, referral source, approximate geographic location at the city or region level, and device and browser type. Google may combine this data with other information it holds under its own policies, described at policies.google.com/privacy.
Microsoft Clarity records session replays and aggregates them into heatmaps showing how visitors interact with pages. Clarity masks the contents of input fields under its default masking modes, which this site uses, and the chat assistant's conversation area is additionally marked for masking. Microsoft's policy is at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.
Both services set cookies to recognize visits over time. Those cookies are set by Google and Microsoft and governed by their policies. This site sets one cookie of its own, recording that the cookie notice was dismissed. The chat assistant stores your conversation in your browser's local storage, which you can clear using the "Start over" control in the chat or by clearing your browser's site data.
This site does not respond to browser Do Not Track signals. Microsoft Clarity states that it supports Global Privacy Control. Browser settings, extensions, and third-party opt-out tools may also be used to limit tracking.
Who We Share Information With
Idea Jar Web Design does not sell your personal information, and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Information is shared with the service providers that operate the site and the business:
- Netlify — website hosting and contact form processing.
- Google Analytics — website analytics.
- Microsoft Clarity — behavior analytics.
- Anthropic — chat messages are transmitted to Anthropic's API to generate replies, under the terms at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
- Google (Gmail) — email correspondence, including inquiry details forwarded from the chat assistant.
- Stripe — payment processing for clients, under Stripe's own terms and privacy policy.
- Professional advisors — legal, accounting, or tax matters, as needed.
This site does not use advertising networks or social media tracking pixels.
How Long We Keep Information
Information is retained for as long as needed to respond to an inquiry and to manage any resulting work. You may request deletion at any time. Information that must be retained for tax, contract, or dispute-resolution purposes is kept until those obligations end.
Your Choices and California Privacy Requests
Idea Jar Web Design may not be subject to the California Consumer Privacy Act based on its size and data practices. Reasonable requests from California residents are honored regardless. You may request access to the personal information held about you, correction of that information, or its deletion. Submit requests by email to matt@ideajarwebdesign.com; verified requests receive a response within 45 days. No personal information is sold, so no opt-out of sale applies.
This site is not directed to children under 13, and personal information is not knowingly collected from them.
Security
Reasonable measures are used to protect the information received. No website, email system, hosting platform, or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
